Arizona's First Golden Retriever Community Weekend

Picture this: crisp October mountain air, the smell of ponderosa pines, and a sea of honey-colored fur taking over downtown Flagstaff. That's The Golden Rush.

We are an annual gathering of Golden Retriever families from Arizona — and beyond. For one weekend every October, we converge on Flagstaff, Arizona: a mountain town where dogs are welcome everywhere, the trails go on forever, and the air smells like fall in a way that makes you want to stay. We hike together, explore downtown, take group photos, find our people, and celebrate the breed that brought us all here.

This is not a dog show. No competitions, no judges, no pressure. Just Golden families who get it — who plan whole weekends around their dogs and understand that a Golden Retriever isn't just a pet, it's a way of life. If you have one, you already belong here.

In 2026 we launched our first year and brought together well over 200 individual Goldens (official count still out) and their families  — an incredible showing for a brand-new event. In 2027, we go standalone: a full, permitted event built from the ground up for this community. We fully expect our numbers to at least double, and we're building something worthy of that growth. Last year our theme was the Route 66 Centennial, 2027 will be the cowboy dog in the event logo above so get your costumes and ideas ready!

We're taking some well-earned time off after the holidays, and will be back with full 2027 plans in the new year. In the meantime, scroll down for information on sponsorships, partnerships, and how to work with us. We'd love to hear from you.

The People Behind the Rush

The people building Arizona's next great Golden Retriever weekend.

Laura McClure and Kathy Wollum — The Golden Rush Team
The Team Behind the Rush

Laura McClure (Executive Producer) and Kathy Wollum (Event Director) are the two-woman team building The Golden Rush from the ground up. Between them they bring decades of event production, marketing, content creation, and community building — and between them they also have a lot of Goldens.

Laura is a lifelong connector — a photographer, storyteller, and horsewoman who built The Golden Rush because she wanted this event to exist. She is the creative vision behind everything you see here. Kathy brings 40 years of marketing and relationship-management experience, including leading national industry conferences. She is the day-to-day point of contact for sponsors and partners — the person who opens doors, builds trust, and makes sure the business side of The Golden Rush is as solid as the community side.

Together they're building something they believe will become a signature Arizona tradition — a weekend that Golden families plan their whole year around. 🐾
